Lawrence County is home to Spring Mill State Park, the second most
visited State Park in Indiana. Featuring a Pioneer Village, tennis courts,
hiking trails, a nature center, canoe and paddle-boat rentals and even a saddle
barn, making Spring Mill the top tourist attraction in Lawrence County.
Probably one of the best-loved areas in the park is Pioneer Village. This
reconstructed village is presented as close as possible to what the area may
have looked like when Hugh and Thomas Hamer acquired the property in 1831.
Another nearby attraction is Lake Monroe, the largest inland body of water in
Indiana. Land and water cover over 25,959 acres. Boating, fishing, swimming,
and camping are available. For further information call Lake Monroe Visitors
Center at Paynetown, St. Rd. 446,
Department of Natural Resources at
(812) 837-9546. It is open from 8:00am until 4:00pm every day.
