In 1916, a group of business and community leaders formed the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce in order to promote trade and industry. Today the chamber is 400 members strong and is still working to help Bedford and Lawrence County thrive and grow.

Through the unified voice of the business community, the chamber leads the economic development efforts in our county by lobbying for adequate highways and transportation while promoting infrastructure conducive for doing business in the 21st century. The chamber has developed a marketing plan that continues to promote area businesses with "Why Roam, Shop at Home" campaigns, discounted long distance telephone services, member-to-member discounts, and chamber member referrals while enticing other businesses and industries to relocate to the area.
