The Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce Education Task Force and the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council have partnered to announce that starting in January, the last Friday of each month will now be Pathways to Success Day.  NLCS educators, Chamber members and community members are encouraged to wear clothing that reflects the college or university that they attended. The goal of this initiative is to develop an ongoing communication with young people in the community about furthering education and the many choices that are available.  For more information regarding Pathways to Success contact the Chamber at 275-4493.  Be part of the conversation and wear your school apparel.

Lawrence County Concert Association announces The Not Too Bad Bluegrass Band will be performing at the BNL Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 11^th at 7:30 pm.  They have been a vital part of Indiana’s vibrant tradition of bluegrass music.  Based in southern Indiana, the band has performed at regional music festivals and events for over 25 years.  In 2010 they were honored to perform at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., as part of the center’s 2010 Homegrown Concert Series.  Tickets are $20 and available at the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce and Copy Trolley.

City of Bedford announces the second Downtown Bedford Brainstorming Workshop on Monday, February 13th from 4 pm – 6 pm at the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce Conference Room.  Over the next five months the City of Bedford will be involved in a planning effort to revitalize the downtown area.  They are looking for people who have an interest in the future of the downtown and would value an opportunity to participate in the downtown brainstorming workshop.  A critical component in this planning effort, the workshop will give everyone an opportunity to give their input on what they would like to see downtown.  Please feel free to invite others that have a desire to see downtown Bedford become a great destination for everyone.  If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Andry at Bedford City Hall at 279-6555 or email dandry@bedford.in.us, or Matt Schriefer at Bernardin, Lochmueller & Associates, the consultant working on this project at 812-479-6200 or email matts@blainc.com. 

Bedford Parks Department will be partnering up once again with the Thornton Memorial Boys Club on Saturday March 3^rd from 1 pm – 3 pm to host the Mother Son Bowling event at Broadview Bowling Alley. As the new year begins, Walmart's local community grant budget is replenished and begins for 2012 also.  Any qualifying non-profit organization can apply for a 2012 Local Walmart Community Grant through the Community Foundation program. These ebooks, as well as hundreds of audiobooks, are available at no charge to Bedford Public Library cardholders.  Just visit the Library homepage at www.bedlib.org and click on the Download books icon.  Every week, the Children’s/Young Adult Department of the Bedford Public Library has a Word of the Week contest that encourages young people to learn new words. The contest is easy and free to enter, and the winner gets a nice prize. Entry forms and drop box are in the Children’s Department.
