- Chamber members and guests are invited to attend the “Friday Focus Luncheon” TODAY at Noon and will be held at the Comfort Inn, located at 911 Constitution Avenue. The featured speaker for this month will be Steve Skillman, from the French Lick Pete Dye/Donald Ross course and Volunteer Chairperson for the PGA Professional National Championship.
- The Third House Session will be this Saturday, February 27th, in the Chamber Conference Room from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. State Representatives Eric Koch and Sandy Blanton, as well as State Senator Brent Steele will be in attendance. Brenda Fiddler, of Keach & Grove Real Estate and Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Task Force, will moderate.
- Per Jeff Callahan, Athletic Director at BNL, the Semi-State will be hosted by BNL this coming Saturday, February 27, 2010. Approximately 4500 people will be in attendance for the two games, from Vincennes, Rushville, Evansville, and Waldron. - The American Cancer Society Relay For Life Team Captain meeting is at S&L Creative Corner on March 1st at 6:30pm. Anyone interested in starting a team or learning about Relay For Life is invited. www.relayforlife.org/lawrencecountyin
- Leadership Lawrence County’s Class has rescheduled their trip to tour the State Capitol, meet with our Legislators and Lt Governor. The trip has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 2nd, leaving on the Star of America (compliments of Bedford Federal Savings Bank ) at 8:00 a.m. The Class will have lunch with the Legislators and Lt Governor at Buca di Beppo’s (compliments of the Times Mail) and return home at 1:30 p.m. Thanks to Bedford Federal Savings Bank and Times Mail for this generous opportunity.
- The Times-Mail, our Chamber of Commerce Buyers Guide and Membership Directory Partner, is currently selling and producing our new 2010-2011 guide. - Christie’s on the Square in Salem will be offering a cooking class on Saturday, March 6th from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Emily Williams Peters, owner of “Butterfly Garden” of two locations in Louisville, KY will instruct how to prepare Warm Mushroom and Arugula Salad with Garlic Vinaigrette, Brussel Sprouts with Apricots and Pecans, Brie and Berry Chicken, Lemon Poppy Seed Cake with Seven Minute Frosting. - The City of Bedford is partnering with organizations across Bedford and Lawrence County to ensure that each person is counted in the 2010 US Census. The City of Bedford has partnered with the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce to ask YOU, a business leader in this community to help us spread the word. There are a million dollar reasons why it is important that everyone in our community gets counted. However, to learn more about the 2010 US Census please visit www.census.gov. The 2010 US Census forms will be mailed to each household around March 15. The goal is to receive back as many forms as possible through the initial mailing. The US Census staff will begin visiting households who have not completed and returned their forms. Here’s how you can help:
- Educate your employees about the US Census 2010
- Hold informational meetings
- Send employees this email to view the video
- Make it the topic of discussion at your weekly/monthly staff meetings
- Place fliers in your mailboxes (fliers can be emailed to you upon request)
- Ask them to tell their neighbors, families and friends about the 2010 Census
- Let them know how important they and their count will be to the Census

- The Lawrence County Historical and Genealogical Society is in need of supplies to build mannequins for their historical clothing exhibition, which opens on April 2 at 5:00 p.m. They need lumber, conduit U clamps, plywood, polyester, quilt batting, muslin and more. - The Bedford Public Library has divorce packets for do-it-yourself divorce as well as other legal forms, such as Power of Attorney, Living Will, and real estate forms. Forms can be copied at ten cents per page. Some programs announced for March at the Bedford Public Library include: It’s Easy to Grow What You Eat! presented by Janet Leahy of Leahy’s Greenhouse on Tuesday, March 9th, from 6 to 7:30; Michelle Hayes of the Indiana Paranormal Society discusses what it’s like to do a paranormal investigation on Monday, March 15th, from 5:30 to 7:30; Marion Walker, witness to the flag raising on Iwo Jima, speaks at 1:30 on Sunday, March 21st; and the Ten Plus Crafts program meets on Tuesday, March 30th, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. All programs are offered at no charge or registration.
- The Lawrence County Museum of History is collecting old cell phones and used printer cartridges for a recycling fundraiser. Please call the museum at 278-8575 if you have any you would like to have picked up. This is an on-going fundraiser.
